Cheap Eats: Chacarero

Green beans on a sandwich? That was this Bostonist's first thought on encountering a sandwich from Chacarero. But the combination of ingredients that make up a Chacarero sandwich - chicken and/or steak, jalapeno sauce, munster cheese, tomatoes, green beans, guacamole - form a unique balance amongst themselves. The hot sauce makes your lips tingle, while the guacamole cools them off. The soft tomatoes and the slight crunch of the beans pair well, and the cheese - well, doesn't any good sandwich need cheese? Choose from veggie, chicken, beef, or combo (chicken and beef, in perfect harmony), served on freshly-made bread. You'll forget there are green beans on there after one bite.

Chacarero has two locations in Downtown Crossing: 26 Province Street and 101 Arch Street. They are open Monday through Friday, 11am to 7pm.

I wish they'd tell us what's in that sauce. I tried my hand once using avocado and cayenne pepper and I can't forget what else... wasn't the same.

Thanks K!

Liney, there are two sauces - one is the jalepeno sauce (on the bottom), and the other is avocado (on the top).

I had a similar sandwich at Au Bon Pain today. It was marked as 'new'...so they must be reading this blog :p

I enjoyed it....even though I have a burning hatred of green beans...they are the fru-its of the dev-il!

This sandwich is why i take off random days at work and head downtown. It is AMAZING. I love this place. I highly recommend grabbing one of these and then heading to the theater for a matinee - great way to spend an afternoon.

I have been eating at Chacarero at least once a week for the last year and can not get enough it of. This place serves excellent food that fills you up while tastes great at the same time.

I highely recommend the large chicken sandwich to anyone stopping by.

Matt, how much larger is the large? I've only ever ordered a small, and that's always been more than enough food for me.

I never get the jalapeƱo sauce, but I swear there's something in the avocado sauce that has a kick to it!
